Youth, 17, charged over Mildura Kmart fire

A TEENAGER has been charged over last weekend's fire at Kmart, which caused more than $100,000 worth of damage and forced the store's indefinite closure.

Mildura crime investigation unit detectives arrested the 17-year-old on Friday morning.

He later made a brief appearance in a children's court.

The court was told the youth was drunk when he lit the Kmart fire as well as setting several bins alight in the Mildura CBD in the early hours of last Saturday.

The boy was on Friday released on strict bail conditions despite police telling the court he posed a risk to the public.
