MOTORISTS are being asked to avoid the Silver City Highway between Wentworth and Broken Hill, with the road closed in both directions.
According to the LiveTraffic NSW website, emergency repairs were taking place at the Bunnerungee Bridge over the Great Darling Anabranch, about 67km north of Wentworth.
Council and Transport for NSW workers were at the scene, according to the website, with advice being given to travellers to avoid the area or delay their journey.
The bridge was said to be closed "until further notice".
A statement from NSW Roads and Maritime Services on Wednesday night said a structural concern had been identified during a routine bridge inspection.
"A specialist bridge team is investigating and assessing the bridge while working on a solution," the statement said.
"The community will be kept informed as more information is available."
