THE Irymple Pool could remain closed until January next year as major maintenance works continue to delay its opening.

Seven council operated pools opened across Sunraysia last week except the Irymple Pool which has a damaged concrete structure.

Other works required include repairs to the pool shell and surface cracks, caulking of expansion joints, a structural and concrete assessment, repainting and core sampling.

The pool was supposed to open on November 15, but Mildura Council confirmed unforeseen circumstances will further delay the opening until late December or early January 2020.

The council, in partnership with Aligned Leisure, is offering Irymple residents access to the Mildura Waves pool at the same price they would normally pay at the Irymple Pool.

"Council apologises for the inconvenience this may cause Irymple residents, particularly with the warmer months ahead," a council spokesman said.

"We recognise that our swimming pools are an important community asset and the repairs that are currently being undertaken will ensure that the Irymple pool can be enjoyed by residents now and into the future."
