RED Cliffs' Dot Jenkinson and Bacchus Marsh's Lorna Lucas won the World Women's Pairs title in New Zealand.

The reigning pair's champions won the title in the final play against England on a count back.

Before the day's play, Australia were a win ahead of England but the team faltered badly and went down to England 21-14. Both won six matches.

On a count back of points, Australia had the best aggregate to win the World Pairs trophy.

Dot, who started her bowling career in 1954, has held nearly every major bowling trophy in Australia at some time or other.

Only three women from Australia went to the World titles being held in Wellington.

Mrs Jenkinson and Lorna Lucas are no strangers in playing bowls pairs.

Together they won the Australian championship pairs in Hobart recently.

Mrs Jenkinson returned to Mildura and a hero's welcome with members from her Red Cliffs club and other district clubs waiting at the Red Cliffs platform as she stepped from "The Vinelander".

They presented her with three big bouquets of flowers and cheered her.

However, one person missing from the welcome home gathering was husband Charlie who is ill in hospital.

Mrs Jenkinson went to the hospital to be greeted by him.
