Kennedy said it was a "very successful" first day on Sunday, given the long weekend, and said he expected up 80 footballers to be compete in round 2 of the six-week competition.

"There were cars all around No.3 Oval," Kennedy said. "We had the scoreboard going and heaps of parents, friends and grandparents. It was really exciting.

"We had some real positive feedback from parents saying they had been waiting for this for a long time."

Six Sunraysia Football Netball League (SFNL) clubs have entered a side in the Under-14 Youth Sunraysia Women's Football League, which Kennedy said was a "massive boost" to women's football in the region.

"That's where we need to get young people from. To develop the junior game, we need to align it with SFNL clubs, and they had to buy into it, which they have.

"That's probably the main reason we got so many numbers."
