Cornale claims title in New Zealand

FORMER local skier Lucas Cornale took out the Under-17 boys’ slalom at the Aussie Kiwi water skiing challenge at New Zealand’s Lake Crichton this week.

Cornale, 14 and now based in Queensland, accrued 1000 points over the two rounds of the slalom event to score 50 more than fellow Australian Ben Cosgriff and New Zealand’s Ethan McKenzie.

His best effort was 0 at 11.25 with a boat speed of 58km/h, after scoring 4.50/58/12.00 in the first round.

Cornale finished eighth overall, with slalom his strongest division. He scored 2810 points for the trick division and jumped 33 metres.

Lucas and his father, Peter, have been selected in the men’s slalom for the coming Moomba Masters, one of the biggest tournament ski events on the Australian calendar.
