WENTWORTH Shire Council hopes its $9.2 million new aerodrome will be the key that opens up the region's tourism potential.

The aerodrome project is on track to be finished about Christmas, with mayor Melisa Hederics excited about the progress and the potential impact it will have on tourism to the region.
