July court date set for Cohrs murder trial

THE murder trial of a man accused of shooting his mother dead at Red Cliffs in October last year is expected to be held in July next year.

Paul Cohrs, 59, faced the Supreme Court in Melbourne by video link on Monday to hear that a ballistics report and computer hard drive data had yet to be viewed by prosecutors.

Documents from a Tenth Street office, which the prosecution said "may add some relationship ... to motive", had also yet to be examined.

Mr Cohrs is accused of shooting dead his mother Bette Cohrs, 82, at Red Cliffs in October 2018.

Mr Cohrs has formally entered a plea of not guilty to the charge.

The trial has been set for July 13, 2020, with an expected duration of four weeks.

The court was told that as Mr Cohrs' assets had been frozen, funding for his defence was still not in place.

Charges have yet to be laid over the death of Mr Cohrs' older brother Raymond Cohrs, who was shot and killed at Rufus River, west of Wentworth, on the same day as their mother's death.
