A YOUNG Mildura man who had been drinking too much when he struck another man and broke his jaw at a late night party has narrowly avoided being sent to jail.

Twenty-four-year-old Jhy Berry was on Thursday expected to contest a charge of recklessly causing serious injury, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of recklessly causing injury arising from the incident.
