A MAJOR crash on the Mallee Highway on Wednesday morning left one person dead.
About 5.30am, a truck and car collided between Manangatang and Ouyen, 5km west of the Manangatang township.
The driver of the car, who is yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
Police urged motorists to avoid the area while the Mallee Highway remained closed.
Westbound traffic was diverted at the Robinvale-Sea Lake Road while eastbound traffic detoured at Calder Highway.
