A MAN who caused more than $40,000 to a Mildura house when he started a fire in a toaster has avoided a term of imprisonment.

The Mildura Magistrates' Court heard the 18-year-old was living in supported accommodation on San Mateo Avenue in February this year and while at the property with a carer he became withdrawn and disengaged.
