Shortlist to decide Millewa drought projects

MILLEWA residents will shortlist $3.4 million worth of major drought projects to total $1 million if Mildura councillors give their approval on Wednesday.

The council received $1m last April to enable drought-relief projects, with the funds now being held in a Community Drought Reserve until a shortlist is established.

A $1m spend on sand drift removal, installation of barriers and revegetation, $845,000 on upgrading the Cullulleraine Community Complex and $400,000 on a walking trail with access pathways have been earmarked on the priority list.

But the community will need to decide which projects, out of a total of 11, will best serve the Millewa, which is still grappling with dire drought conditions.

Some of the other projects which made the priority list include new tourist signage directing traffic to Lake Cullulleraine and Murray-Sunset National Park, along with community events, outreach support and pest management.
