January pumping curbs give rivers a chance, says irrigator

A TEMPORARY pumping restriction has been placed on northern Murray-Darling Basin rivers in anticipation of high rainfall forecast for this week.

The NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) put the embargo in place to protect flows in the northern river valleys for critical needs including towns, basic landholder rights and stock and domestic supplies.
