FISHING has been banned around aerators in the lower Darling River.

Ten aerators have been placed in areas of the river from Menindee to Pooncarie to provide refuges for native fish including Murray cod.

Menindee resident Graeme McCrabb said he had seen people fishing around aerators near the town, where six aerators have been strategically placed.
