SUNRAYSIA residents are being warned by welfare groups to be cautious when purchasing animals on social media and be mindful of emotion overtaking logic.

There are numerous active Facebook pages which allow community members to advertise dogs and cats for sale, pending the seller adheres to new Victorian legislation which makes it an offence to post without a unique source number.
