Power outages in Sunraysia

HUNDREDS of Powercor customers across Sunraysia were left without power on Monday afternoon, after a fault occurred in the wake of Mildura's wettest September day in three years.

The power outage was listed at 2.40pm, and impacted 655 customers in Irymple, as well as 196 in Red Cliffs, 10 in Cardross and 61 in Mildura's Deakin Avenue, Acacia Drive and Cureton Avenue areas.

A Powercor spokeswoman said the fault was on a high voltage cross arm and crews were working to restore power at 7pm.

Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Dean Stewart said Monday's 8mm of rain was the most Mildura had experienced in a 24-hour period since May.

"(It) is not a huge amount, but it has been a while since you have had even that much in a one day fall - in fact you have to go back to May 15, when Mildura had 15mm in the gauge," he said.

"The last time (Mildura) had more than 8mm on a day in September was September 30 in 2016.

"On that day there was 23.4mm."

Mr Stewart said the front came across Victoria on Sunday night, however the cloud band didn't thicken up over Mildura until Monday afternoon.

"The southerly winds had already pushed up there by the morning," he said.

"The cooler air had filtered in - Mildura only made it to 15.6 degrees."

The maximum temperature was 15.6 degrees, however it remained between 9-10 degrees for the remainder of the afternoon.

The weather is expected to warm up Tuesday with a top of 18 degrees.

A list of power outages can be found on the Powercor website.
