A BUS that rolled backwards on to Sturt Highway in Buronga on Thursday was lucky to miss oncoming traffic.

About 7.15am, Dareton police and NSW Rural Fire Service crews were called when a V/Line bus rolled down the concourse of the Shell service station on to the busy highway.

The bus then tore through a fence before coming to a halt.
