SUNRAYSIA’S economy would be boosted by moving more produce off roads and on to rail, according to Mildura councillor and Rail Freight Alliance chair Glenn Milne.

A new CSIRO transport cost study has revealed farmers and regional communities would benefit from significantly larger freight cost savings achieved through the Inland Rail line between Brisbane and Melbourne.

Cr Milne said the study showed Sunraysia growers, and the wider community, could also benefit from upgrades to the Mildura-to-Melbourne rail line.
