Let the market decide, Victorian Water Minister Lisa Neville says

EFFORTS to meet growing demand for irrigation water on the Murray River should not lead to governments “picking winners and losers”, Victoria’s Water Minister says.

Lisa Neville this week outlined her water policy ahead of next month’s state election during a visit to Mildura, where she also met members of Lower Murray Water’s strategic advisory committee.

Concern about a potential irrigation shortfall has grown in recent years as vast new plantings, particularly nut crops, develop along the Murray River.

Ms Neville said Sunraysia owed its success to the market working well over time, “even during the drought”.
