ONE of Australia’s rarest birds has a brighter future thanks to a new sanctuary in the Mallee.

Victorian conservation organisation Trust for Nature has purchased 860 hectares of habitat for Malleefowl at Annuello, about 30 kilometres south of Robinvale.

Malleefowl are ground-dwelling birds that build large mound nests.
