City welcomes new citizens

MILDURA Rural City Council hosted two citizenship ceremonies at the Alfred Deakin Centre on Friday ahead of Australian Citizenship Day.

Fifty-four people from 18 countries became Australian citizens across the two ceremonies.

Saturday marked Australian Citizenship Day - an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate their Australian citizenship and reflect on the meaning and importance of Australian citizenship as well as the responsibilities and privileges all Australians have as citizens.

Council conducts citizenship ceremonies on behalf of the Australian Government bi-monthly, with a special ceremony on Australia Day each year.

The next citizenship ceremony in Mildura will be held on November 17.
