Fun family walk for mental health

A FAMILY-friendly and inclusive event that aims to promote better mental health in our community by sharing a walk and a talk as a group will be held at Nowingi Place this Saturday.

The Walking Off The War Within challenge is a 20km walk with 20kg, however people can walk as little or as much as they like on the day without a backpack.

Last year more than 1000 people walked as one in Mildura to raise awareness of mental health and the assistance available locally.

This year the organising committee is hoping to attract even more walkers, including young people and families with some free activities in place such as a giant, inflatable obstacle course, emergency service vehicles, Defence displays, EnviroEDU, face painting and more.

There will also be plenty of shaded seating with coffee, food and live music all day so people can still be part of the movement.

The walk is in memory of Nathan Shanahan, a returned solider and firefighter, and other fallen Service Men and Women who have taken their own lives after battling mental health issues.

Nathan was a fierce advocate for mental health and PTSI. He sadly lost his battle in December 2016.

Walking Off The War Within is one way Nathan’s legacy continues.

Merchandise will be available on the day with warm-up activities from 8am for an 8.30am start.

Entry to the event is free or by donation. If you plan to attend, register at https://www.eventbrite.com.au/e/2022-mildura-walking-off-the-war-within-tickets-268314946227.
