THE running of the historic steam pumps at Psyche Bend planned for this weekend has been cancelled due to the poor state of the unsealed public access road.

The Sunraysia Steam Preservation Society said recent wet weather had made driving on the road difficult, and possibly dangerous.

The society relies on public donations on running days to help finance maintenance of the early irrigation pumps. It said, however, that the steam-powered Millewa A Pump Station would be operational on Saturday and Sunday, with a barbecue lunch available for a cold-coin donation.

The Millewa station is at Lock 9, near Lake Cullulleraine.
