More rain ahead for Mildura in a strange November

MILDURA recorded an unusual weather event on Saturday as maximum temperatures remained low.
Mildura’s maximum temperature, 16.1 degrees, was recorded at 7.49pm.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Michael Efron said although the situation could be understood by the day’s weather events, recording the highest temperature at that time was “uncommon”.
“You would normally see a maximum between about 4pm and 5pm at this time of year,” Mr Efron said.
“It’s unusual to see it so late.”
He said with thick cloud cover and light rain clearing in the early evening, the “timing was right” for the warmest part of the day to be recorded just before sunset.
Across the region there was a “significant contrast” in temperatures, with warmer temperatures seen south of Mildura.
While Swan Hill recorded 20.1 degrees, Hopetoun and Warracknabeal had 21 and 23.7 degrees respectively.
“You’d see Mildura being one of the warmer spots, but it was actually up to seven degrees lower than some relatively nearby locations.”
The weekend did not deliver expected rain as the low-pressure system moved further north than originally forecast, with 3.2mm of rainfall recorded at Mildura Airport between 9am Friday and 9am Sunday.
However, Mr Efron said moisture looked to be “moving down across the region” beginning on Tuesday, with up to 3mm of rain expected.
About 15mm could also fall on Wednesday, but he said there was “small potential” for more rain given the possibility of thunderstorms.
Maximum temperatures so far this month have remained low, averaging 24 degrees over the first 21 days. This November has been far cooler than last November, which averaged a maximum temperature of 31.9 degrees.
And while temperatures should rise on Monday to a sunny 28, they were expected to cool again towards the end of the week.
