THE latest set of border restrictions do not come as welcome news to Sunraysia's fishing community, with boating on the Murray River now all but forbidden for Victorian residents.

The restrictions now allow Victorians to travel to NSW only for essential purposes, not recreation.

For people who unwind by wetting a line, this means the river is now off limits.
