COUNCIL elections will go ahead on October 24 for all municipalities, the Victorian Government says.

Minister for Local Government Adem Somyurek on Friday said "safe and secure" postal voting would be used across all Victorian councils for the first time.

Voting by post has previously been used to elect councillors in Mildura.
