MILDURA's Kmart store was evacuated on Wednesday afternoon after its illuminated sign caught fire.

Dozens of people filed out of the store just after 3pm after a public announcement advised shoppers of the blaze.

Mildura Fire Brigade crews brought the fire, which engulfed the sign's letter "K", under control in about 10 minutes, according to senior station officer Mick Sporton.
