Peeps In The Past - 12 to 18 May
MOTHERS DAY: Celebrations for Mother’s Day were held at Scot’s Church, Merbein, at both morning and evening services. Worshippers each wore a white flower as a token of respect to their mothers, the flowers were distributed by junior members of the congregation. Our mother’s religion, the preacher Rev. R. Morris said, was reflected in their hymns, their quiet faith in the favourite 23rd Psalm and in that hymn that Scotchmen sang nearly a century ago before they sang any other. “Oh God Our Help in Ages Past.“ After many hymns were sung, Miss B. McKechnie rendered the old hymn “Shall You, Shall I” as an offertory hymn.
