IT was half a century ago when Phil Crump got his first speedway bike for a meeting at Mildura’s Olympic Park.

As former Mildura Motorcycle Club president Gavin Sedgman recalls, it was his own father, also Phil, who helped start the career of one of the best solo riders the world has seen.
