Speedway meet cancelled as season put on hold

THE AMCA National title which was to have been run at Mildura’s Timmis Speedway on the Easter weekend has been cancelled amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The Mildura Speedway Drivers Club confirmed due to the current situation the prestigious event could not go ahead.

“The decision has not been made lightly,” the statement from the club read.

“In the current climate we are currently in, and in the interests and safety of our volunteers, officials, drivers, crews and race fans there was no suitable option to proceed in the current situation.

“The remainder of the season is also suspended until further notice.

“The committee would like to thank all of the volunteers, officials, sponsors and supporters, drivers, crews, race fans and everyone that has had anything to do with our great little club this year.

“Speedway will hopefully still be around next year and we will get to do it all again.”

Meanwhile, the 2020 Australian Sidecar Speedway Championship  that was due to be hosted at Mildura’s Olympic Park was postponed by a meeting of the Mildura Motorcycle Club committee on Monday night and is set to be held later in the year.

The Mildura Ski Club was meeting overnight to discuss plans for the 2020 Mildura 100 ski race.
