AUSTRALIA has always had terrible droughts, fires and floods and the fires this season are very destructive, with loss of life and property.

Ex-CSIRO scientist David Packham recently told Andrew Bolt that we must reduce the fuel loads in the bush by regular burning in the cool seasons until we have reduced those loads to a much safer level.

This will take a number of years, but it must be done.
