Star pair poised to coach Irymple next season

IRYMPLE Football Netball Club are poised to announce Dan Coghlan and Nick Mee as joint coaches for next season.

The pair look set to replace Todd George and Will Callow, who stood down after last month’s grand final win over Imperials.

Swallows president Dennis Mitchell said they had not yet formalised anything with Coghlan and Mee, as they work through other appointments.

“We don’t rush anything at Irymple, we are very calculated with what we do,” Mitchell said.

“We have every faith in Nick (Mee) and Dan (Coghlan) going forward, but it is a matter of the whole coaching process and the whole team which will be put around them.”

Irymple have been renowned over recent years for the professional way in which they go about things.

Mitchell said football and the role of football coaches within clubs had changed a lot over the years.

“They are the same as Will (Callow) and Todd (George). It wasn’t just Will and Todd coaching, there are about seven people behind the scenes who share that workload.

“So once the group of us get together and we have our plan in place we will formalise with those guys, but there is also a process of us formalising a process of three or four others around them.

“I think we are well beyond the person who stands up and coaches the football club on their own these days.

“We are fooling ourselves if we think one man coaches a football team at Irymple.

“We make sure the whole club is coached, it is not about the top 25 players, it is about the 42 on the list at the senior end of the club as well as the under 18s.

“We are confident with those two boys going forward, no problems at all, but we just haven’t formalised it yet.”

Coghlan and Mee have been two of the Swallows stars over the past three seasons, playing key roles in helping the club reach the past three SFNL grand finals and winning two.

But they have big shoes to fill with Callow and George one of the most successful coaching combinations seen in the SFNL for some time.

Coghlan and Mee’s impending appointment means most clubs have now finalised their coaching panels for 2020.

One club which is still on the hunt for a new coach is Imperials after the shock resignation of Adam Hartlett.

Hartlett had indicated after his side’s grand final loss to Irymple that he would be continuing on in 2020, but with a young family he has decided to move back to Adelaide.
