Photos, video: Mildura South sports precinct takes shape

WORK on the Mildura South Regional Sporting Precinct at the corner of Deakin Avenue and Sixteenth Street is progressing.

The precinct's football oval has been flattened and the frame for the indoor component has been erected.

Council community general manager Martin Hawson said stage 1 of the project was on track for completion early next year.

South Mildura's football and netball teams will call the precinct home.

Mr Hawson said the main oval would be up to AFL standard once complete, while the indoor stadium will be used for community sport and capable of hosting as many as 2000 people for events.

"It's a six-court stadium with all the amenities and changerooms and so forth with that, and it can double as an event venue as well," he said.

"It'll be utilised every night of the week.

"Yes it's basketball, but it's also volleyball, badminton, table tennis."
