AVOCADO production is set to almost triple this year across Sunraysia and the Riverland after an ideal season.

Kym Thiel, a Riverland avocado grower and tristate director of Avocados Australia, said the tristate region would produce an "an exceptionally heavy crop" of almost 1.2 million trays this year.

The harvest will be an increase from 435,000 trays last season.
