Extra support for Free TAFE students

MILDURA SuniTAFE will be on the receiving end of an education initiative aimed at lowering attrition rates within its Free TAFE program.

'Project Piolet' will offer Free TAFE students additional support through education provider Learn Local, for skill building in literacy, numeracy, digital and employability skills within their courses.

SuniTAFE's strategic partnership senior manager Will Trible said the Mildura campus was a suitable fit for the project.

"It's an expansion of partnerships and relationships that already exist, to assist those students who have signed up for Free TAFE with a goal to achieve future employment," he said.

"It's going to be targeting anyone who is struggling to achieve in the classroom and who needs additional support in those Free TAFE courses."

The Mildura campus was one of two TAFE providers in Victoria to partner with the board for the initiative, along with the Chisolm Institute in Melbourne.

Mr Trible said the additional support would help Mildura TAFE in getting more students through their qualifications.

"I think it will see those enrolled in Free TAFE be given the opportunity to succeed, and given more support in the form of study support."
