A GRADE 5 student has taken out Mildura Airport's competition to design its new cafe.

Merbein P-10 College student Matilda Smith, 11, will see her design on the new Mildura Airport Garden Cafe when it opens in a few weeks' time.

Matilda won the competition in a field of more than 250 entrants from schools across Sunraysia.

Her design features a plane in blue sky, alongside colourful bunting.
