Mildura Senior College class of 2020 thinks of the future

MILDURA Senior College held its annual Futures Day on Monday, when Year 12 students engaged with Sunraysia's tertiary education providers as they looked to the future.

Mildura Senior College teacher Ineke Rogers said the day was more important than ever this year, due to the changes the COVID-19 pandemic had wrought upon the job market.

"We realise it's a special year," she said.

"More students, we feel, will be staying in Sunraysia.

"Particularly this year, we're very worried that there will be very few jobs for the kids to go to.

"For them to get a job in the future, we really think they have to upskill."

Mildura Senior College partnered with La Trobe University and SuniTAFE to introduce students to future educational and vocational pathways that are available in Sunraysia.

"The object of the day is basically to ensure that every student gets the opportunity to choose a course for themselves which they may take up the following year," Ms Rogers said.

"It's about looking at all different pathway options for them, whether they go to TAFE first, whether they want to do an apprenticeship, or whether they want to go to university, and the courses that are available fro...
