$13.5 million boost for regional cricket

GRASSROOTS cricket has received a funding boost from the State Government through the Community Cricket Program.

Member for Northern Victoria Mark Gepp announced applications had opened for $13.5 million funding under the program.

Local cricket clubs and councils across northern Victoria can apply to develop or upgrade cricket facilities.

With growing numbers, many clubs are struggling to accommodate new players.

"Victorians love their cricket, and the Community Cricket Program is making sure that more people can enjoy the game," Gepp said.

"We're helping clubs and councils build or upgrade facilities for the local community, opening up new opportunities for training, competition and player development.

"From Mildura to Yarrawonga, Rochester and Echuca, and everywhere in between – I encourage our local clubs, associations and councils to get together and see if the Community Cricket Program can make a difference in northern Victoria."
