COVID clinics closed

COVID-19 vaccinations will continue to be available at pharmacies in Wentworth, Dareton and Buronga despite the Far West Local Health District closing clinics in transition to business as normal.

Following Far West LHD's successful contribution to the COVID-19 vaccination program, the district’s permanent vaccination clinics were closed from Thursday, September 8 as demand has significantly decreased.

Far West LHD acting chief executive Jodie Miller said the closure of the vaccination clinics will allow staff working in those clinics to return to their previous roles in facilities and health services, where they are most needed.

“I’d like to thank the efforts of our committed and dedicated staff who have done an incredible job in contributing to the COVID-19 vaccination program,” Ms Miller said.

“Our vaccination centres have administered more than 33,000 COVID-19 vaccine doses across the LHD since the pandemic started.

"More than 95 per cent of the eligible population across all local government areas in the LHD have had two COVID-19 vaccination shots and 67 per cent have had a third booster shot.

“The LHD’s vaccination efforts have helped keep our community members safe during the pandemic, and we appreciate the efforts of our staff and our partner organisations including Maari Ma and the Royal Flying Doctor Service."Vaccinations continue to be available at pharmacies in Wentworth, Dareton and Buronga, while the RFDS will continue to operate clinics in remote and vulnerable communities such as Wilcannia, Menindee, Ivanhoe, Tibooburra and White Cliffs.

Ms Miller said the Far West LHD had performed an incredible job in providing vaccination clinics in all our communities, including conducting or participating in numerous pop up and outreach clinics since the vaccines were made available.

The Far West LHD said it would continue to monitor vaccination efforts across the district and attend regular meetings with health partners.

Appointments for COVID-19 vaccinations, including winter booster doses, can be made via the Federal Government’s COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic Finder.
