West Wimmera Shire gets coronavirus case

A SECOND neighbouring Mildura municipality has recorded an active case of the coronavirus.

West Wimmera Shire, which joins the Mildura local government area to the south, on Tuesday had a new case of COVID-19 confirmed to take its total of recorded cases to two, according to Department of Health and Human Services data.

Swan Hill is the other Mildura-bordering region in Victoria to have an active confirmed case, with two current cases from an overall total of six.

The Mildura LGA has had five confirmed cases of COVID-19, but has not had an active case since April.

Other municipalities neighbouring Mildura in Yarriambiack (one total), Buloke and Hindmarsh (both zero) have no current active cases.

Further south, however, Horsham (10 total and seven current) and Loddon (five and two) still have multiple existing cases.

Victoria announced on Tuesday 384 new cases of the coronavirus, with the total number of cases now at 9049.

The overall total has increased by 353 due to 31 cases being reclassified – largely due to duplication.

In Victoria, 78 of the new cases were linked to outbreaks or complex cases and 306 were under investigation.

There were six new COVID-19 deaths reported in Tuesday's update.

They were a man and a woman in their 90s, two women and a man in their 80s and a man in his 70s.

Four of the deaths are linked to aged-care centres.

To date, 83 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.
