A BRASS band bonanza is set to take place in Mildura this weekend, with the Salvation Army Preston Citadel Band joining forces with the Mildura Brass Band to entertain audiences.
The weekend of music will begin with a mini concert by the Preston Corps Brass Band, who are visiting the region from Melbourne, in Langtree Mall at 10am on Saturday.
They will then combine with the Mildura Brass Band for a concert at the Salvation Army Sunraysia at the corner of Etiwanda Avenue and Fourteenth Street at 7pm.
Salvation Army Sunraysia's Major Debbie Serojales said they are grateful the Preston Band is in Mildura.
“We don’t have many musicians in our church, so as a group we are looking forward to just being able to be supported that way, and the fact that they want to give back to the community while they are here as well is really great," she said.
"With them and their families, we are looking at 40 plus people coming along.
"It will be nice to be able to just enjoy people giving back to us – we do a lot ourselves every week within the church, so we are looking forward to having them come and share with us.
"We are looking forward to hearing their music and hearing their stories as well."
The Preston Band will also be visiting local aged care centres, as well as leading the Salvation Army Sunraysia church service on Sunday.
Entry to the concert on Saturday night is via a gold coin donation, which will go towards the Salvation Army's Red Shield Appeal.
"It’s not about the donations, it’s about the concert, but we thought while we are doing it, it is a good opportunity to help out our community programs at the same time," Major Serojales said.
"It’s about working together and doing something amazing for the community."
