Walk and talk in Barclay Square

SUNRAYSIA residents both young and old are invited to combine reading, gentle exercise and the joy of sharing stories in a unique and fun event at Barclay Square this month.

StoryWalk®, run by the Mildura Rural City Council Libraries, allows participants to follow a series of story boards around Barclay Square, completing actions and activities as they go.

This month’s event is based on Aoife Greenham’s Big Dance, which is a story about the freedom to be yourself and the fun of joining in.

Councillor for arts, culture and heritage Helen Healy said it was a great way to encourage younger residents to read, while allowing them to enjoy time outdoors and exercise.

"There aren’t too many events that combine reading, exercise and socialising, but our event at Barclay Square will do all of this and more and is a great way to promote reading among our younger residents," she said.

"The other positive about this format is that participants become part of the story by completing actions as they make their way around each story board at their own pace."

The StoryWalk at Barclay Square will be held on Friday October 28 from 10am to midday.

To take part, check-in with library staff at the pop-up library and follow the story boards.

Participants will be able to meet and chat with library staff on the day, play some of the library’s ‘big games’ and collect a free library bag.

People are welcome to bring along a picnic snack and water bottle, and are encouraged to wear a hat, sunscreen and comfortable shoes.
