Victorian Seniors Festival goes on air

SUNRAYSIA seniors are invited to tune into the next phase of the reimagined 2020 Victorian Seniors Festival.

Due to COVID-19 public health restrictions, the annual festival has been transformed into a six-month virtual party with various phases.

The next phase has arrived in Mildura and local community station Vision Australia Mildura 107.5FM will broadcast the Radio Reimagined program each Tuesday at 6pm.

Through September and October, listeners can enjoy music and entertainment, radio plays, poetry and prose from the comfort and safety of home.

The program includes Jessie Lloyd's Mission Songs Project, Christine Grace's spoken-word drama Things To Be Getting On With and radio play Wicked Widows by Ian Hopgood.

Listeners will also be taken back through the history of Melbourne's Regent, Capitol and Athenaeum theatres through the At The Picture Palace series.

The festival, now in its 38th year, is calling on older Victorians to embrace this year's In the Groove theme by taking part in the activities.

The festival is part of the State Government's $59.4 million mental health package announced to combat the loneliness of seniors during COVID-19.

It encourages positive ageing, health, security and community participation for Victoria's one million-plus seniors.
