Mildura Rural City Council considers reopening libraries

CHILDREN and adults are expected to soon be able to return to local libraries.

From Monday, 20 people will be able to visit their local library thanks to the Victorian Government's easing of COVID-19 restrictions.

The news came as coronavirus restrictions on playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor communal gym equipment were eased from Tuesday this week.

Mildura Rural City Council's libraries have been closed to the public since April and in recent weeks staff have been utilising Australia Post to send out library items.

A council spokesman said they were working through how the easing of restrictions would look for libraries and other services and facilities moving forward.

"It is important that when we do re-open we can do so safely and in line with the strict social distancing and hygiene measures that still apply to us all," he said.

"We will keep the community informed as decisions are made."

"We encourage everyone to follow our Facebook page and to visit our website for regular updates."

Council is also reminding people to exercise care when using playgrounds, skate parks and outdoor gym equipment, which currently have a limit of ten people.

People are reminded to stay home if they are unwell, keep 1.5m from others and wash their hands after using equipment and before eating or touching their face.
