Mildura to feature on breakfast show Sunrise

MILLIONS of Australians will wake up to see what Mildura has to offer on Tuesday morning.

Australia's number one breakfast show, Sunrise, will be crossing to Mildura for every weather announcement as part of its A-Z virtual tour of Australia.

It's understood Channel Seven is working with Mildura Regional Development (MRD) to co-ordinate different places and people that they want to see during their weather crosses with Sam Mac.

Celebrity cook Stefano de Pieri in his home kitchen and motor racing star Rick Kelly in his virtual racing car could be among the guests featured.

MRD chief executive officer Brett Millington said it was a big boost for the region's tourism industry, which had been crippled during the coronavirus pandemic.

"It is fantastic and gives us a great chance to showcase our region and what we have to offer," Mr Millington said.

"This gives us a national audience for about eight minutes in total, with eight weather crosses of about one minute each."

Mr Millington said when coronavirus restrictions began easing, domestic travel would be among the first things to resume, with international travel unlikely for quite some time yet.

"It is absolutely critical that we are at the front of the line as a destination for all those people when they are able to start travelling again," he said.
