Police are also investigating a fatal collision between a train and cyclist in Melbourne’s northern suburbs on Saturday.
It has been a tragic week on Victoria’s roads with six people killed in the past week.
“Each of those lives lost was preventable,” Assistance Commissioner Road Policing Command Libby Murphy said.
“So, I’m here to ask you to work with Victoria Police and to make sure that you keep yourselves and other road users safe over this weekend.
“What we’ll see is that police are out in force. We know you want to get away, we know you want to get away there quickly and relax with your feet up.
“And if you slow down, consider the road conditions and drive to those conditions without speeding, you will get there safely.”
Anyone who witnessed the crash, has dashcam footage or any other information that could assist police is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report via www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
