MALLEE farmers are deeply concerned about the viability of transporting grain by rail in the coming harvest, according to Member for Mildura Ali Cupper.
Ms Cupper told Victorian Parliament this week that performing routine maintenance along the Sea Lake and Manangatang lines, no matter how well-intentioned, would make no difference to the viability of rail to farmers.
“Broad gauge in any condition is not going to attract the number of contractors needed for transport prices to be competitive,” Ms Cupper said.
