Healthy eating reduces risk

MUMS diagnosed with gestational diabetes need more support mechanisms to help them return to or maintain a healthy weight post-pregnancy, according to University of South Australia researchers.

New research shows despite understanding their increased risk of type 2 diabetes, women struggle to prioritise their personal health after gestational diabetes.

UniSA lead researcher and PhD candidate Kristy Gray said it was important to understand the barriers to weight loss for women who have had gestational diabetes to help reduce the growing incidence of type 2 diabetes.
