A POPULATION drive targeting regional Victoria could increase the number of people living in Mildura threefold to 150,000 by 2056, according to the Regional Australia Institute (RAI).
The RAI this week called for a new national awareness campaign to promote the opportunities of living in regional Australia and help influence a population shift in coming decades.
Melbourne’s population is forecast to rise by five million to 10.5 million by 2056 and RAI co-chief executive Dr Kim Houghton told Sunraysia Daily that Mildura “certainly” had a role to play in easing the strain on the state’s capital.
