IMPERIALS’ 24-point victory over Red Cliffs in the 1986 Sunraysia Football League grand final was largely unremarkable, but for what was to follow.

The Green and Whites had the game sewn up at half-time when they led by 49 points and many of the yellow-and-black army were already making tracks when the lead blew out to 62 points at the final change.

Imps had missed finals action the previous year in a mediocre season, but under former Tigers coach Mark Cross they were a different unit with a different mindset.
